The cashless festival concept and the Festivalcard was introduced in Hungary last year, at Heineken Balaton Sound and Sziget Festival. Festival visitors, who were interested in this very fresh cashless concept could try out the card as an alternative payment method. The Festivalcard was very successful among visitors. Over 12,000 people chose cashless payment on Heineken Balaton sound and Sziget Festival.
Following last year’s prosperous debut, Sziget Kulturális és Menedzser Iroda Kft. decided to introduce the Festivalcard as the official currency on all of its summer festivals.
The contactless card system will be introduced on Budai Gourmet and VOLT Festival, Heineken Balaton Sound and Sziget Festival are all going completely cashless.
A number of Festivalcard top up points, Helpdesks and hostesses will help the smooth implementation of this novelty at the venue. Thanks to the new system, the payment will be faster and safer.
What you should know about the Festivalcard
The Festivalcard is issued by Sziget Kultúrális és Menedzser Iroda Kft. The cards represent electronic vouchers. Topping up the card’s balance means cardholders buy electronic vouchers. The balance of the electronic voucher is not stored on the card.
The cards operate in line with the Hungarian law in force.
Why the the Festivalcard is useful for you?
- Safer: Visitors don’t have to carry around their wallets and cash. According to this there is a lesser chance for losing money.
- If lost (following a simple registration), visitors can easily disable their card and ask for the remaining balance to be transferred to a new card. Smoother, more simple service: you only have to tap your card to the card reader when paying. A single transaction only takes 2-4 seconds.
- The Festivalcard is the unified official currency in 2011 at Budai Gourmet, VOLT Festival, Heineken Balaton Sound and Sziget Festival. One card can be used at all 4 venues, however the balance is not transferable.
The remaining balance can be reimbursed at each festival, at any time during opening hours, but latest at the last official day of the festival.
Where can I get a Festivalcard?
Each visitor will receive their first card at the entrance for free, together with the wristband. The card’s opening balance is 0 HUF.
Where can I top up the card?
You can top up the card at Festivalcard top up points both with cash (HUF) and bank card, with an amount of your choice, but maximally with 240 000 HUF. The balance of the card is rechargeable at any time, during the festival.
Registration
For the Festivalcard card to operate safely we recommend you to register it. We can only disable lost or stolen cards which have been previously registered. After disabling the card you can ask for a new one, to which we will transfer the remaining balance of your old card.
The registration can be done through SMS by sending a text message to +36 20 66-99-777. The message should consist of the word REG, the 9 digit card number and a 4 digit PIN code of your choice (e.g. REG 123456789 1234). You can also register online by visiting www.metapay.hu/fesztivalkartya
Registration is mandatory if toping is over the amount of 100,000 HUF at once.
How can I check my balance?
Balance of the card can be checked at all merchants and Festivalcard top up points.
Balance can be checked at merchants accepting the card, at Sziget top up points or at the www.metapay.hu website.
I lost my card, how can I disable it?
We can only disable lost or stolen cards which have been previously registered.
Cards can be disabled:
- by sending the word STOP and your 4 digit PIN in SMS to +36 20 66-99-777 (e.g. STOP 1234)
- through our website www.metapay.hu/fesztivalkartya
Each new card costs 500 Forints.
After disabling the lost or stolen card, you can get a new one at Festivalcard top up points.
We transfer the balance that was valid at the moment of the disablement to a new card, 30 minutes after disabling it. You can ask for your balance to be transferred at Festivalcard Helpdesk.
Where can I exchange my balance to cash?
The balance of the card can be reimbursed to cash at any time during the festival.
The balance can be last reimbursed until closing, on the last official day of each festival.
By redeeming and using the card you automatically accept Sziget prevailing Regulations and Meta MPI Kft.’s data management code.
